About the Course:

This 1-hour & 30-minute live session is a hands-on, practitioner-focused course designed specifically for HR professionals who want to harness the power of Anthropic's Claude AI platform, particularly Claude Cowork and Claude Code, to transform how they work.

HR teams today are buried in repetitive administrative tasks: drafting offer letters, updating policies, synthesizing interview feedback, generating onboarding documents, and running compliance checks. These are valuable activities, but they consume hours that should be spent on people strategy, culture building, and meaningful human interaction.

This course bridges the gap between cutting-edge AI technology and the practical, day-to-day realities of an HR professional's workflow. You do not need to be a developer. You do not need to write code. You need curiosity, an internet connection, and a willingness to rethink how work gets done.

By the end of this session, you will be able to set up Claude Cowork on your desktop, install the HR plugin, connect it to your existing tools like Gmail, and delegate real HR tasks to Claude, from policy lookups to offer letter drafts to weekly briefings, all through plain English instructions.

Why This Course?

The question is no longer whether AI will change HR; it already is. The question is whether HR professionals will lead that change or be left behind by it.

The Problem HR Professionals Face Today

Despite being one of the most people-centric functions in any organization, HR is paradoxically one of the most time-poor. Studies show that HR professionals spend up to 60% of their time on administrative and transactional tasks, drafting documents, formatting reports, responding to policy queries, and coordinating across tools, leaving only 40% for the strategic work that actually moves the needle.

The tools available to date have either required technical skills HR teams don't have, or have been so generic that they can't understand the nuance of HR workflows, the difference between a performance improvement plan and a disciplinary letter, or the specific way your company's parental leave policy works.

The Old Way:

  • Draft offer letter manually (30–45 min)
  • Search through policy docs for an answer
  • Manually compile the weekly HR metrics report
  • Individually process 50 exit survey responses
  • Build onboarding doc from scratch
  • Manually sort and label HR files

With Claude Cowork:

  • Generate a draft in 2 minutes with role context
  • Ask in plain English, get the right section instantly
  • Schedule Claude to pull and format it every Friday
  • Synthesize themes and sentiment in minutes
  • Generate a role-specific onboarding kit from templates
  • Delegate folder organization to Claude in one prompt

Why Claude Cowork Is Different?

Claude Cowork is not a chatbot. It is an agentic AI system that sits on your desktop, reads your files, and completes multi-step work from start to finish. You define the outcome. Claude figures out how to get there, across your folders, your tools, and your workflows.

And critically, it comes with a pre-built HR Plugin, developed by Anthropic in partnership with enterprise HR teams, that already understands HR workflows, terminology, and the kinds of documents HR professionals work with every day.

This course teaches you to use it effectively, responsibly, and confidently.

Why Now?

This is not a trend to watch from a distance. It is a transformation that is happening now, and HR professionals who understand these tools in 2026 will have a decisive advantage.

The Moment We Are In

  • January 2026: Anthropic launches Claude Cowork in research preview, sending software stocks tumbling as investors recognize the platform-level disruption potential for knowledge work.
  • February 2026: Anthropic launches the HR Plugin for Claude Cowork alongside Finance, Legal, and Operations plugins. The HR plugin supports offer drafting, onboarding, performance reviews, policy lookup, compensation analysis, and people reporting, out of the box.
  • March 2026: Cowork connects to Gmail, DocuSign, and other enterprise tools via MCP connectors, enabling end-to-end HR workflow automation without leaving your desktop.
  • April 2026: You are here. Early adopters in HR are already using these tools daily. Organizations that move now build institutional knowledge and competitive advantage as the technology matures rapidly.

The Cost of Waiting

Every month, an HR team continues without these tools is another month of hours lost to tasks Claude can handle in minutes. More importantly, it is another month, and competitors who have adopted these tools are pulling ahead, doing more with the same headcount, moving faster on talent initiatives, and freeing their HR leaders to focus on strategy.

This is not about replacing HR professionals. It is about giving HR professionals the leverage to do what they do best: lead people, build culture, and make judgment calls, without being buried in administrative overhead.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this 1-hour & 30-min live session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the AI landscape for HR - Clearly distinguish between Claude Chat, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, and know when to use each for HR work.
  • Set up Claude Cowork end-to-end - Install the desktop app, activate Cowork mode, install the HR plugin, connect Gmail, and set global instructions tailored to your organization.
  • Delegate core HR tasks to Claude - Use Claude to draft offer letters, look up policies, generate onboarding documents, synthesize performance feedback, and organize HR files, all through plain English.
  • Automate recurring HR workflows - Create and schedule automated tasks so that routine reports, digests, and updates happen without manual effort.
  • Apply Claude Code concepts to HR - Understand where Claude Code adds value beyond Cowork, batch processing, data scripts, and working with developers on HR system integrations.
  • Use AI responsibly in HR contexts - Apply the 'first draft engine' mindset: understand what Claude can and cannot be trusted with, when human review is non-negotiable, and how to handle sensitive employee data ethically.
  • Customize for your organization - Modify the HR plugin with your company's terminology, policies, and preferred output formats, making Claude work like it was built for your team.

What Success Looks Like?

  • A successful participant leaves this session with Claude Cowork installed, the HR plugin active, at least one connector linked to their Gmail, and the confidence to delegate their next HR task to Claude, whether that is a policy lookup, an offer letter draft, or a synthesized report from exit interview notes.
  • More importantly, they leave with a mental model for how to think about AI in HR: not as a replacement for their judgment, but as a high-leverage partner that handles the 'what' so they can focus on the 'so what'.

Who is the Target Audience?

This course is designed for HR professionals at all levels who want to leverage Claude AI for their day-to-day work. No technical background is required.

  • HR Generalists & HR Business Partners - Professionals who handle a wide range of HR tasks and want to reduce administrative load while improving output quality and speed.
  • HR Managers & HR Directors - Leaders responsible for HR operations who want to build AI-enabled workflows for their teams and make informed decisions about AI adoption strategy.
  • Talent Acquisition & Recruiting Teams - Professionals involved in candidate evaluation, offer management, onboarding, and recruiter communications who want to automate the repetitive parts of the hiring funnel.
  • L&D and People Operations Professionals - Those who design training materials, onboarding programs, and employee experience initiatives want to accelerate content creation and synthesis.
  • CHROs & VP HR (Strategic Buyers) - Senior HR leaders evaluating whether and how to deploy Cowork across their HR function, who need a clear picture of capabilities, limitations, and ROI before presenting to leadership.
  • HR Tech & HRIS Analysts - Those who sit at the intersection of HR and technology want to understand how Cowork integrates with existing HRIS, ATS, and collaboration tools.

Who This Course Is NOT For: - This course is not for software developers or data scientists looking for a deep technical exploration of Claude's APIs. It is also not for HR professionals who are not yet using a computer regularly for their work. A basic comfort level with desktop applications, email, and cloud storage is assumed.

Basic Knowledge:

Technical Prerequisites

  • Participants are expected to arrive with the following:
  • A laptop or desktop computer running macOS or Windows (Linux is not supported for Cowork).
  • A Claude account (a free account is sufficient to follow along; a Pro or Max plan is required to use Cowork independently after the session).
  • Google Chrome browser installed (recommended for optimal experience).
  • Basic familiarity with file folders, document editing, and email.

Conceptual Foundations

No prior AI experience is required, but participants will get more out of the session if they arrive with a basic understanding of the following concepts. A brief primer will be provided at the start of the session, but reviewing these in advance is encouraged.

  • What Claude is - Claude is an AI assistant created by Anthropic. Think of it as a highly capable colleague who can read, write, analyze, and take action, but needs clear instructions and human review for important decisions.
  • What 'agentic AI' means - Unlike a chatbot that responds to one message at a time, an agentic AI can be given a goal and will take multiple steps, opening files, searching the web, creating documents, to achieve that goal autonomously.
  • What MCP connectors are - MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors are integrations that allow Claude to connect to your tools, Gmail, Slack, etc., so it can read from and write to those systems on your behalf.
  • What plugins are in Cowork - Plugins are pre-built packages of skills, workflows, and slash commands that make Claude immediately useful for a specific job function. The HR plugin, for example, comes pre-loaded with commands for offer drafting, policy lookup, and performance reviews.
  • The difference between Cowork and Chat - Regular Claude Chat is a back-and-forth conversation. Cowork lets Claude take autonomous, multi-step action on your computer: reading files, creating documents, organizing folders, and completing tasks while you step away.

Pre-Session Checklist

  • Download Claude Desktop from claude.com/download before the session
  • Create a free Claude account if you do not already have one
  • Have a folder of HR documents (policies, templates, offer letters) accessible on your desktop
  • Join the session on a device where you can also use Claude simultaneously

Core HR Use Cases: Hands-On Walkthroughs

  • The heart of the course. This module walks through six concrete HR use cases with live demonstrations in Cowork. Participants follow along and complete at least two exercises during the session.
    • Use Case 1 — Policy Lookup & Simplification: Connecting your policy documents using /policy-lookup to find relevant language and rewrite it as a manager briefing, employee FAQ, or plain-English answer
    • Use Case 2 — Offer Letter Drafting: Using /offer-draft with role title, compensation band, start date, and hiring manager context to generate a professionally formatted first draft in under 2 minutes
    • Use Case 3 — Onboarding Documentation: Generating role-specific onboarding checklists, welcome packets, and first-week schedules from existing templates and folder contents
    • Use Case 4 — Performance Review Assistance: Structuring manager review summaries from raw notes, ratings, and bullet points into coherent, professional written assessments
    • Use Case 5 — Research Synthesis & Benchmarking: Combining web search and your internal documents to generate compensation benchmarks, market analysis summaries, and talent trend reports — with appropriate caveats
    • Use Case 6 — File & Document Organization: Delegating folder cleanup, batch renaming, and document categorization tasks — practical exercise using a sample HR folder
    • EXERCISE: Participants run their first real Cowork task using their own documents and a prompt template provided by the instructor

Scheduled Tasks & Automation for HR Workflows

  • This module covers one of Cowork's most powerful and underused features: scheduled tasks. By the end, participants will have set up their first recurring automated task.
    • What are scheduled tasks in Cowork? Setting a cadence and letting Claude run it automatically
    • Five high-value scheduled task ideas for HR: weekly headcount report from HRIS, daily email digest, monthly compliance checklist generation, exit interview theme synthesis, and Friday offer letter status summary
    • LIVE DEMO: Setting up a weekly automated briefing that pulls from Gmail and surfaces action items
    • Limitations and guardrails: what scheduled tasks cannot do, and when human-in-the-loop is essential

Plugins, Customization & Scaling Across Your HR Team

  • This module is aimed at HR managers and HR leaders who want to deploy these tools across their team, not just for personal use.
    • The plugin marketplace: what Anthropic provides out of the box vs. what you can build yourself
    • Customizing the HR plugin: adding your company's org structure, leave policies, comp bands, and preferred document formats into the plugin's skill files
    • Creating custom slash commands for your team's most frequent tasks
    • Enterprise controls: how IT admins and HR leaders can manage which plugins employees access, set spend limits, and track usage
    • HIPAA and sensitive data: what HR must know before connecting employee health, compensation, or disciplinary records to Cowork
    • Building a Claude adoption roadmap for your HR team: who goes first, how you measure success, and how you scale

Responsible AI Use: What HR Must Know

  • This is perhaps the most important module in the course. It equips HR professionals — who work with the most sensitive data in any organization — to use Claude thoughtfully, ethically, and within appropriate guardrails.
    • The 'first draft engine' mindset: why all Claude outputs must be reviewed before they are sent, filed, or acted on
    • When Claude is trustworthy vs. when it is not: policy restatement (high trust) vs. compensation benchmarking (low trust) vs. disciplinary letters (always human-reviewed)
    • Data privacy fundamentals: what Claude sees, what it stores, and what your employees need to know
    • Bias and fairness in AI-assisted HR: the risks of automating performance language, candidate screening notes, and compensation decisions
    • Building your organization's HR AI policy: a practical framework covering which tasks to automate, which to co-create, and which to keep fully human
    • Legal and compliance considerations: a brief overview of AI-in-HR regulations your team should be aware of

Quick-Start Action Plan & Live Q&A

  • The course closes with a concrete, time-boxed action plan that each participant can begin executing the same day — and an open Q&A to address questions that came up throughout the session.
    • Your 30-day HR AI adoption roadmap: Week 1 (install and connect), Week 2 (first real task), Week 3 (first scheduled task), Week 4 (customize for your team)
    • Resources for going deeper: Anthropic's HR plugin on GitHub, Claude Help Center at support.claude.com, and AIHR's practical Claude for HR guide
